Seeing posts that say there is “no Social Security check in November”? That is only true for SSI. Your Social Security payment in November 2026 is coming as usual, on November 3, 10, 18 or 25, depending on when you started benefits and your birthday. The confusion comes from Supplemental Security Income (SSI), whose November payment was sent early on October 30. This guide helps you find your exact date in under a minute, explains why one date moved this month, and shows what to do if your money doesn’t arrive.

Social Security Payment November 2026: All Dates

DateWho gets paid
Fri, October 30SSI for November (paid early, because November 1 is a Sunday)
Tue, November 3People who started benefits before May 1997, people who get both SSI and Social Security, and a few other groups
Tue, November 10Birthdays on the 1st–10th (moved up one day for Veterans Day)
Wed, November 18Birthdays on the 11th–20th
Wed, November 25Birthdays on the 21st–31st (the day before Thanksgiving)

These dates apply to retirement, Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), spousal and survivor benefits. SSI recipients get no payment dated in November; their next deposit is December 1.

Find Your Social Security Payment Date in 3 Questions

Answer these in order. Stop at the first “yes.”

  1. Did you start getting Social Security before May 1997? Your date is November 3.
  2. Do you get both SSI and Social Security? Your Social Security arrives November 3; your SSI already came on October 30.
  3. Neither? Use the birthday of the person whose work record pays the benefit:
    • 1st–10th: November 10
    • 11th–20th: November 18
    • 21st–31st: November 25

A few other groups are also paid on the 3rd, including people who live outside the U.S. and people whose state pays their Medicare premiums. If you’re not sure which group you’re in, your award letter or your online account will show it.

Spouses and survivors use the worker’s birthday.

The rule many spouses and survivors miss

If you receive spousal, children’s or survivor benefits, your payment date is based on the worker’s birthday, not your own. For example, a wife born on the 25th who gets spousal benefits on her husband’s record, and he was born on the 4th, is paid on November 10, not November 25.

Why One Social Security Payment Moved This Month

Social Security usually pays on the second, third and fourth Wednesdays of the month. In November 2026, the second Wednesday is November 11, Veterans Day, a federal holiday when banks don’t process payments. So people with birthdays on the 1st–10th are paid one day early, on Tuesday, November 10.

The other dates don’t change. November 3 is Election Day, but that is not a federal holiday, so the 3rd-of-the-month payment goes out as usual. The November 25 payment arrives the day before Thanksgiving, which is helpful if you’re buying food or traveling.

Why People Think There Is “No Check” in November

Three things are causing the confusion:

  • SSI was paid early. SSI is normally paid on the 1st. With November 1 on a Sunday, the November SSI payment arrived on October 30, so SSI recipients saw two deposits in October and will see none in November. We explain the details in our guide to the SSI payment for November 2026.
  • Headlines blur SSI and Social Security. Many articles say “Social Security” when they mean SSI. They are different programs with different payment calendars.
  • Social Security is paid a month behind. Your November Social Security payment is actually your benefit for October. SSI works the other way: it pays for the current month. This is also why the 3.6% cost-of-living increase shows up at different times for each program (see below).

When Will You See the 3.6% COLA Raise?

The 2027 cost-of-living adjustment is 3.6%. It will not appear in your November or December Social Security payment. For Social Security, the raise starts with the payments you receive in January 2027. For SSI, it starts with the payment dated December 31, 2026, which is your January SSI paid early. December 2026 Social Security and SSI Dates

Plan ahead, because December also has an unusual schedule:

  • Tue, December 1: SSI for December
  • Thu, December 3: Social Security for people who started before May 1997 and dual recipients
  • Wed, December 9, 16 and 23: Social Security by birthday (1st–10th, 11th–20th, 21st–31st)
  • Thu, December 31: SSI for January 2027, paid early and including the COLA

Plan Your Budget Around Your Payment Day

Knowing your Social Security payment date is only half the job. The other half is lining up your bills with it.

  • Move bill due dates. Many utilities, card issuers and landlords will change a due date if you ask. Set them a few days after your Social Security payment arrives.
  • Watch the long gap in December. If you are paid on December 23, your next Social Security payment won’t come until late January. Set aside money for holiday spending before then; our holiday budget plan can help.
  • Use direct deposit. The federal government has been moving away from paper checks, and electronic payments arrive on the morning of your payment date.
  • Keep a small buffer. One week of spending in savings covers the rare delayed deposit without late fees.

What to Do If Your Social Security Payment Doesn’t Arrive

  1. Check the right date first. Many “missing” Social Security payments are simply not due yet.
  2. Wait three business days. The Social Security Administration (SSA) asks people to wait three days before reporting a missing payment.
  3. Contact your bank. Sometimes a deposit is received but not yet posted.
  4. Check your account online. Your my Social Security account shows your payment date and amount.
  5. Call SSA at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778) or visit your local office.

Watch out for payment scams

Confusion about payment dates is a favorite opening for scammers. SSA will never call to say your payment is “suspended,” ask for gift cards or ask you to move money to “protect” it. If someone contacts you about a missing or extra payment, hang up and call SSA directly. Our stimulus check scam guide lists the most common red flags.

Final Thoughts
